The Vikings in the Streets Festival began in 2010 and takes place in Viking, Alberta, about an hour east of Edmonton on Highway 14. Viking and the surrounding area is supported mainly by agriculture and the oil and gas sector. The Town of Viking has a diverse population of residents with young families moving to the area.
